KINGS MOUNTAIN ASSOCIATED PARENTS (KMAP)

The KINGS MOUNTAIN ASSOCIATED PARENTS (KMAP) forms the backbone of our esteemed Kings Mountain Elementary School (KMES) as a passionate, all-volunteer nonprofit organization. Our primary aim is to synergize the efforts of parent-led initiatives to ensure enduring success for our acclaimed California Distinguished school and our shining stars – the students. By default, all parents and guardians of enrolled students become part of our energetic KMAP family.

Our endeavors stretch from fundraising initiatives for enriching KMES programs to championing our school within the wider community. We pride ourselves on being a vital communication link, fostering collaboration among school families, parent groups, our dedicated school staff, the surrounding community, and the Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD) administration. The funds generated by KMAP are channeled directly towards the educational needs of our students, enrichment activities, and enhancements to the school site, guided by the collaborative prioritization of KMAP, staff and School Site Council (SSC).

The core group of board members consists of parents who meet once a month to address issues in fundraising, school events, logistics, and planning.

KMAP meets every month in person or on Zoom. Meetings at KMES are open to everyone - you need not be a board member to attend. We value the diversity of life circumstances and backgrounds within our community, recognizing that each family brings unique insights for the enhancement of our school. If attending meetings presents a challenge, please get in touch, and we will work together to find a suitable method for your participation.

We are currently looking for volunteers to fill board positions for the 2023-2024 School Year.  If you have any interest in serving on the KMAP Board please reach out to an of us.

Because of fundraising efforts by our parents and local Kings Mountain community, KMAP and SSC have been able to spend over $1,600 per child to supply student resources and support.  For a powerful example of what parent and community volunteers do for this school, we often point to the programs many people think are just a “given” in a school, perhaps funded by the district.

Many of the “extras” at KMES are made possible by the funds raised through KMAP, such as:
• The enhanced, hands-on science program
• Intervention specialist and classroom aides
• Art in Action
• Music program
• Computers
• SMART Boards
• Teacher’s Supplies
• The Lion’s Den

Parents and families often ask what they can do to help and keep all of this running smoothly.  There are lots of options! You could make a tax deductible donation to KMAP or attend our fundraiser events.  You may also choose to volunteer your time in your child’s classroom, help with planning an event, or contribute to the success of our programs by joining the KMAP board.
